JAGI!!! πŸ’€πŸ”₯πŸ”«πŸ˜ˆπŸ‘ŠπŸ’₯🀬

Without the mask, this guy looks cool!

Even in his introduction in Fist of the North Star, you expected a cool villain. The helmet, the spikes, the shotgun, the way he carried himself. You thought Kenshiro was about to face someone truly dangerous.

But like everything Jagi, he was a letdown. A real, real letdown.

Now the figure? Man, this thing looks awesome. But you cannot expect Jagi himself to be awesome anyway.

Our rating: 4.3/5 β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

Excellent sculpting, satisfying articulation, a fantastic removable helmet and a ridiculous shotgun. Limited extras and a tendency to pick up colored marks keep it from scoring higher.

Jagi looks far better than he deserves to

Kaiyodo really did something wonderful with this one. The body proportions, the spiked shoulders, the vest and that ridiculous helmet all come together nicely. He looks intimidating, even if anyone who watched the series knows what a fool he really is.

I also like his height. At about 14.5 cm, the figure has enough presence to look good next to other Revoltech figures from the same series. For an older release, the sculpt still holds up.

Remove the helmet and look at that face

The removable helmet is one of my favorite parts. It changes the whole look of the figure, and the face underneath is actually very well sculpted. The scars and damaged features are clear and detailed. I like how much personality the sculpt carries without needing a pile of accessories.

You would think the unmasked face would make him less impressive, but for me it is the opposite. There is something about the ugly, angry look that works beautifully as a collectible.

Movement and that chopped shotgun

Great movement! His arms and legs can be posed in all sorts of dramatic ways, and the joints hold up surprisingly well for the design. You can get those ridiculous Jagi stances without fighting the figure every second.

His supposed chopped shotgun is great too. A man who claims he should inherit Hokuto Shinken, yet still needs a shotgun to feel brave. Classic Jagi. The manufacturer also designed a holster for the weapon, a small but welcome detail.

You could even play him beside a big water tank, laughing like a maniac. It would look completely in character.

So, what are the letdowns?

Because this is Jagi, we cannot expect everything to go right. Here are the issues that keep my rating at 4.3 rather than a perfect score.

  1. Not enough accessories. The original package has a shotgun, four optional hands and a display base. Useful, yes, but this character could have done with a lot more.
  2. No alternative expressive faces. A screaming head or another exaggerated expression would have been perfect for someone who spends so much time shouting and bragging.
  3. No shotgun blast effect. Imagine posing him firing it. That one extra part could have made the figure considerably more fun.
  4. No special scene or impact effects. The figure itself is fun to pose, but recreating one of his memorable moments needs your imagination or other props.
  5. Colored dirt and transfer marks. My figure has a tendency to pick up colored dirt or marks. They show up on the sculpted surfaces, so I have to be careful with handling and display. I would avoid harsh cleaning products on older paint.
  6. Visible Revolver Joints. The articulation is useful, but some poses make the joint design very obvious. That is part of the older Revoltech look.

What comes in the original box?

Kaiyodo’s Fist of the North Star Revolution No. 004 Jagi was released in November 2008. Original retailer specifications list the following:

Maker Kaiyodo
Series Fist of the North Star Revolution No. 004
Height Approximately 145 mm
Articulation 19 points, using 14 Revolver Joints
Accessories One shotgun, four optional hands and a display base
Standout details Removable helmet, scarred face sculpt, soft vest and shotgun holster

Specifications are from the original AmiAmi product listing. My opinions above come from handling the figure shown in my own review footage.

Final verdict: 4.3 out of 5

Jagi is a terrible villain. An arrogant fool, a coward and, compared with his brothers, an embarrassment. But he makes a surprisingly awesome figure.

His face is well sculpted, his height is good, the movement is satisfying, and I love being able to remove the helmet. The shotgun is another highlight. I just wish Kaiyodo gave him a few more dramatic accessories and expressions.

My rating: 4.3/5. Sometimes a terrible character makes an excellent toy. Jagi is one of those examples.
