Truth be told, I can’t remember this guy.
Yes, I’ve seen the original Fist of the North Star, but this guy? He doesn’t strike me as someone who would have stuck in my childhood memories. He ain’t no Shin, he ain’t no Rei, and most definitely, he ain’t no Jagi.
This guy is fodder. The kind of oversized thug Kenshiro would wipe out before the real fight even begins.
But wow, this guy can do a hell of a lot. At least, the Revoltech figure can.

Wait, who is this guy again?
Zeed and his gang are the first enemies Kenshiro faces in Fist of the North Star. If you remember the early story, you probably remember Kenshiro dealing with a bunch of wasteland bullies and demonstrating exactly what Hokuto Shinken does to the human body. They’re memorable as an introduction to Kenshiro, even if I couldn’t pick every thug out of a lineup decades later.
Here’s a little detail from the box and product references: this figure is called “A Member of Zeed,” not simply “Zeed.” We’re looking at a Zeed Gang member, not necessarily the gang leader himself. Fitting, really. Kaiyodo took a disposable goon and turned him into one of the most entertaining figures in the lineup.
Packaging and first impressions
This is Kaiyodo’s Revoltech Fist of the North Star Revolution Series No.002, originally released in 2008. Product listings put him at around 155 mm tall. Those are reference details; what you see in the photos is our actual boxed figure and what we handled on camera.

Just look at him. Ridiculous muscles, oversized shoulder armor, torn white collar, green trousers and that blond mohawk. He looks like someone who’d terrorize a whole village, only to last about a minute once Kenshiro appears.

An axe, chunky joints, and a very bad attitude
Of course, he carries an axe. A huge one, with red paint on the blade. You can see it clearly in our footage, and it’s perfect for this kind of brute. No fancy fighting style, no noble philosophy. Just an axe and a terrible attitude.

The articulation is very much classic Revoltech: visible joints rather than today’s sleeker engineering. From the video, you can see the arms and head being handled and adjusted. I wouldn’t claim a full articulation test or a durability over time verdict from this footage alone. We’ll leave those conclusions for a proper posing and stress test.
This man could practically blow himself apart!
Man, when was the last time you saw an action figure do something like this?
The only toys I remember doing anything remotely similar were those old Real Ghostbusters figures from my childhood. Remember those? The ones where you moved an arm or pressed something and suddenly their faces changed into something disgusting? Eyes popping out, jaws dropping, or some horrible creature appearing out of nowhere.
Well, this Revoltech Zeed reminds me of those toys.
Except this guy doesn’t just make a funny face. His chest opens up, his insides are exposed, and his head transforms into something that looks like Kenshiro just gave him the worst day of his life.
It’s disgusting. It’s ridiculous. And I absolutely love it.

Now, to be clear, he doesn’t literally explode on his own. You operate the moving parts by hand. But that’s part of the fun. Unlike a normal figure with a separate damaged head, this one lets you physically change the character from threatening thug to an absolute mess.
This is why the exploding torso trick matters more to me than a dozen extra accessories. It’s not just a gimmick pasted onto a character: it recreates what Fist of the North Star is famous for. The poor guy is practically designed to lose.

What I liked, and what I haven’t tested
I like the exaggerated sculpt, the big axe, and the sheer absurdity of that transforming body. More importantly, I like that we can actually show the feature working in our own unboxing footage. It’s the sort of toy trick that makes you want to pick the figure up and demonstrate it to somebody else.
What I can’t establish from the video is how well every joint holds difficult poses, how the plastic will age after years of regular handling, or what a fair secondhand price should be today. Because this is an older collectible, I’d examine the joints and completeness of the accessories carefully before buying a used one.
Final thoughts
Would I have picked a member of the Zeed Gang over Shin, Rei, Jagi or Raoh as a favorite Fist of the North Star character? Not a chance.
But Kaiyodo somehow made this nobody entertaining. The muscular sculpt and axe are fine, yet it’s the grotesque body gimmick that steals the show. It brings back memories of the weird, wonderful toys we had as kids. Except this time it’s perfectly at home in the brutal world of Kenshiro.
The character might be forgettable. The figure isn’t.
