Gerber Dime Review: Small Tool, Big Convenience? (Pros, Cons & Rating)

PulseNPicks hands-on rating: 4.2/5 — Great pocket-sized convenience, with compromises in strength.

The Gerber Dime is a keychain-size multi-tool that can help with small everyday tasks: opening parcels, handling tiny screws, and gripping little objects. It is not a substitute for a full tool kit, but its appeal is that you can keep it with you. This review includes our own hands-on observations.

🛠️ What You Get

The Dime is approximately 7 cm long when closed and weighs approximately 62 grams. Its 12 functions include spring-loaded needle-nose pliers, regular pliers, wire cutters, a fine-edge knife, scissors, a package opener, tweezers, screwdrivers, a file, and a bottle opener. The standard version includes a blade and is not suitable for airport cabin baggage. In my hands-on test, the tweezers were able to grip and lift small objects reasonably well, although they have their limits.

✅ Pros

  • Very portable: Small enough for a keychain, pocket, or daily bag.
  • Smart package opener: Especially practical for deliveries and taped boxes.
  • Useful small pliers: Handy for delicate gripping and minor household tasks.
  • Quick bottle opener: Accessible even when the tool is folded.
  • Good everyday variety: Several common functions in one compact tool.

❌ Cons

  • Light-duty only: Tiny pliers can bend or twist under excessive force.
  • Mixed scissors performance: Reports of weak cutting and spring durability concerns.
  • Limited leverage: Small handles make stubborn screws and gripping jobs difficult.
  • Short blade and drivers: Less useful than full-size tools.
  • No locking implements: Use care when applying pressure.
